5 Random Reasons for a Massage

By now I'm sure many of you are familiar with the vast and various benefits of massage.  Listed below are a few benefits you may never have heard of or considered.

Please note:  the following reasons have been deduced by yours truly over the past 11 years of practice and observation of how massage and bodywork effects the body, mind, & emotions.

1.  Weight Loss-  Stress often leads to overindulging which many times leads to overeating.  Lower the stress, lower the need to overindulge.

2.  Making BIG Decisions (or small ones too)- Making big decisions can be really stressful.  Often, we are fearful of making the wrong decision.  Although, I don't believe in mistakes it doesn't negate the level of discomfort one feels when facing a cross roads in life.  Stress is consuming.  It can take up a lot of space in the mind, emotions, and body.  When stress is diminished, space is created for the answer to come.

3.  Strengthening Relationships- This seems like a no brainer.  When you feel healthy, calmer, and grounded, your friends and family notice.  A common symptom of massage is feeling at ease with oneself.  A common symptom of feeling at ease with oneself is others feel at ease with you too.  Tension is reduced within and with out.

4.  Increasing Productivity-  Stress can make us do crazy things.  Like for example, chase our own tails.  Sometimes when we are busy and overwhelmed, we accomplish less.  Reducing stress can calm and clear the slate so that we can multitask effectively.  When waters are calm, we can see clearly the reflection (read: what needs to be done and how to efficiently and effectively accomplish this).   Sometimes when waters are calm you can see straight down to the bottom (read: the depth or importance of what we are accomplishing).

5.  Injury!-  Many times when I suggest massage to someone who is recovering from an injury they are shocked to hear that this can actually help the healing process.  It does more than help.  Massage can and will heal an area with better results than not.  Massage techniques can be applied to clear out waste trapped in the muscle tissue and open up tight or cramped muscle that can block the flow of blood and lymph.  Other techniques are used to increase blood and lymph flow into the area.  Lymph cleans and clears out as blood heals.  Blood carries all the nutrients and oxygen.  Increasing the supply increases the healing potential.  It's SO simple, and you will be VERY glad you did it.
